Autumn

I walked along a mossy stone path that offered a view of the stream. I felt peaceful, at ease around the cold air that surrounded me. Autumn was right around the corner, sitting on a rosy brown bench, reading what appeared to be a fantasy novel. Immersed, she and the book resided as one as she dove into it’s universe. Birds around us slowly, steadily and gracefully spread their wings and lifted off into a borderless sky that seemed to stretch out into infinity. I ambled into what felt like loneliness, but not the loneliness felt at school, like a number in a crowd of indifference, where your pain is to be dealt with alone, where you are stared at like something that is no more human than the shoes you wear on your feet. Not that kind of loneliness, no, the one that you require every once in a while in order to reflect.

I sat down near Autumn. The corner of her coralline lips showed a gentle smile as she kept her eyes on the written words inked permanently on the white pages of her novel. With or without her red velvet glasses, her beauty could easily be compared to that of Cleopatra. She wore a lavender coloured coat along with dark brown hair that rested on her shoulders. One simple gaze at her hazelnut eyes and you would meet with her beautiful soul, one of wonders.

Leaves toppled down in harmony with the swaying trees as they performed one last dance before reaching the ground. Nature’s equilibrium welcomed Autumn with a lovely spectacle. The swift stream merrily hopped over and around the rocks that populated the forest roads. Its earthy and warm petrichoric scent detonated in us a feeling of serene tranquility.

She laid her head on my firm shoulder as I placed my hand over hers. They were as soft as a kitten’s paws.

« I love you, » she gently whispered.
